I walk along the Brighton coast and am inspired by the sea every day

About the Artist

Jemma Day

Using water-based oil paint, with wholly unique effect, Jemma Day paints directly onto wall-mounted canvases in her tranquil and light-filled studio overlooking the narrow Lanes of Brighton, usually working on multiple pieces simultaneously to maintain the momentum that creates such energetic paintings.

Day holds degrees in Fine Art from the University of Brighton and Goldsmiths, University of London and has been awarded art residencies in both Barcelona and Brighton. The effects of these two colourful and alluring coastal cities can be seen is the atmosphere that Day creates in her abstract paintings. Her gestural mark making is full of buoyant energy, matched with a palette that ranges from a riot of colour, to subdued washes and the blending of similar shades. The resulting artworks evoke the sense of both a flashing moment in time and the distant feeling of a memory.

Day’s playful and engaging style has captured the attention of a broad audience, having been exhibited at an array of national exhibitions and art fairs and has been published in both House & Garden & Tatler in 2018.

Kate Dolan

Inspired by colours, forms and vistas found in the natural world, Kate Dolan is drawn to views of vast open spaces that occur both naturally and through the manipulation of man. Through her paintings, Dolan translates her emotional responses and experiences of the world. The loose spontaneity of brush strokes and gradually layered textures that she creates is sometimes interrupted with precise and determined forcefulness.
